Beginning February 1, 2027, Microsoft will no longer offer voice calls or SMS text messages as an option for Microsoft multifactor authentication (MFA). Starting September 1, 2026, they are encouraging users to set up a passkey as the most secure and simple method for authenticating.

Passkeys enable faster sign-in, are easier to use, and are much more secure. To set up a passkey, click Next, and follow the remaining prompts. For instructions, follow the normal steps for setting up MFA (look at the "Passkeys" section).

Outcome

You are able to sign in to services at Texas Tech University using your passkey, and you will not lose access when the legacy options are removed on February 1, 2027.

You may click Other options to bypass this prompt and set up a passkey at another time. Setting up a passkey is highly recommended before the deadline on February 1, 2027, to avoid losing access to some TTU services.
