The Microsoft Authenticator mobile app has a backup feature as documented on Microsoft's website at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/back-up-account-credentials-in-microsoft-authenticator-bb939936-7a8d-4e88-bc43-49bc1a700a40. However, in practice, it does not provide true backup capability for Microsoft 365 accounts. Therefore, IT Help Central does not recommend using this feature. Instead, set up alternative multifactor authentication (MFA) methods.

IMPORTANT: Do not delete the Microsoft Authenticator app from your phone or replace your phone without having an alternate MFA method in place. We recommend adding multiple MFA methods to your account ahead of time. That way, you have other options for MFA if your phone is not available.
