Symptoms
You receive the following message in Windows:
Windows needs your current credentials
Please lock this computer, then unlock it using your most recent password or smart card.
Cause
Cause #1
Your eRaider password has expired in accordance with the published password expiration process.
Cause #2
After changing your eRaider password, if you do not sign out of your computer or restart it, you are still signed in with your previous eRaider password. Windows will recognize this fact and prompt you to lock the computer so that you can enter the new password.
Resolution
No one at Texas Tech University or from anywhere else should ask for your password.
Resolution for cause #1
Set a new eRaider password. Then, restart your computer.
Outcome
After waiting five minutes, you are able to sign in to your computer using the new password.
Resolution for cause #2
- Connect to the TTUnet wired network. If you are unable to do so, you may establish a TTUnet VPN connection.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard, and choose Lock.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del again and unlock your PC using the new password.
Outcome
Once this is done, you will not have to sign out or restart the computer. Windows will use your new credentials when accessing network resources.
