Emails sent to TTU blocked because of security reasons

Symptoms

TechMail users unable to receive email from third-party email system

Cause

TechMail administrators may be blocking the third-party mail system because it was deemed a threat to network security. Typically, this happens when the third-party email system has been comprised or is not properly secured, resulting in attacks against TechMail users and/or the TTU network.

Resolution

Users of the third-party email service may speak with their chief information security officer (CISO) to remove the block. The CISO for that domain may contact Texas Tech University's CISO, if needed. Usually, a block is dynamic and will be removed automatically when the behavior of the third-party email system improves.

OUTCOME

After the block is removed, TechMail users will receive any new email messages sent from the third-party domain.
