Unable to access a server when using manually-configured TCP/IP settings

Cause

Incorrectly configured network settings

Resolution

Edit your TCP/IP settings to use DHCP (automatically obtain IP address), if at all possible. All computers on the TTUnet network, even servers and printers, should use DHCP whenever possible.

When you have manually-configured TCP/IP settings, you must put in the proper subnet mask (e.g.255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0) to reach your server. At TTU, the primary subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, but it may vary by system, and it may vary as changes are made to TTUnet. Also, verify your WINS and DNS numbers. Again, use DHCP if possible.
