Error: "too many redirects" or "ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS" when attempting to sign in to a website using eRaider account

Symptoms

You may receive one of the following messages when attempting to access a website which uses legacy eRaider Web Sign-in (eRWS) authentication:

too many redirects

or

ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

example screenshot

Cause

Legacy eRWS relies on the client IP address to validate sign-in attempts. The IP address that signed in to eRWS must match the IP address that is connecting to the web application. Your Internet service provider (ISP) may be using a network configuration where network address translation (NAT) is being used but source address persistence is not enabled. Sometimes, apartment complexes will use network configurations like this.

Resolution

We recommend contacting your network administrators or apartment management if the network is provided by the apartment. Administrators of your network need to set the port address translation so that there is persistence in the source address. This will allow a single client to use the same IP address for all connections during a single session.

OUTCOME

You are able to sign in to the desired web application using your eRaider username and password.

Workaround

If the network service provider is unaware if the network forces all traffic through a proxy, or if they are unable to make the necessary configurations to the network to resolve the problem, you can try using TTUnet VPN connection as a workaround.
