Error: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'SERVER_NAME'. You do not have permission to access this server."


Symptoms

When attempting to connect to a Windows file share from your Mac, you receive the following message, where SERVER_NAME is the name of the server to which you attempted a connection:

There was a problem connecting to the server "SERVER_NAME".

You do not have permission to access this server.

Cause

You do not have the appropriate access rights to the file share to which you attempted a connection.

Resolution

  1. Check to make sure that you are using the correct path to the share on the server.

  2. Check to make sure that your account has privileges to get to the resource.

Outcome

You will be able to use the file share successfully.
