Error: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed"


Symptoms

You may receive the following error message when trying to sign in to a domain-authenticated PC:

Error: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed

Cause

The computer account has the incorrect role or its password has become mismatched with that of the domain database.

Resolution

Verify that the computer is connected to the network, and then restart the computer.

If restarting the PC does not work, you will likely need to contact your primary support provider to resolve this problem. A local administrator account is needed to correct the error. An admin will need to sign in to the computer using a local account, remove the computer from the domain, restart the computer, and join the computer to the domain again. This will usually resolve the problem.
