You receive the following message when opening a Microsoft 365 app:

UNLICENSED PRODUCT Most features are turned off because a shared computer license isn't available. To use these features, close Outlook, restart it, and sign in with your Office 365 account.

The word "Outlook" in the message above may instead be the name of the software that you opened, such as Word or Excel.

If this message appears in Outlook, you may not be able to send email messages or reply to messages. The Microsoft 365 software is currently in reduced functionality mode.

There are multiple causes for this. One of the causes that has come up for TTU is when someone is adding a TechMail account to Outlook when Outlook is licensed to another institution through Shared Computer Activation.

If this error occurred after adding a TechMail account to an instance of Outlook that is licensed through another organization, clear out any TTU/TechMail related credentials from Credential Manager.

If this error occurred after adding a TechMail account to an instance of Outlook that is licensed through another organization, you can remove the TechMail account from Outlook and instead access the TechMail account through Outlook on the web.
