Unable to retire knowledge block in ServiceNow because it's used in articles


Symptoms

You want to retire a knowledge block in ServiceNow but cannot because it is used in articles. This occurs even if the articles themselves are retired.

There is no known resolution at this time.

Workaround

1) Edit any published articles and ensure that the knowledge block isn't used in them. Then, publish those solutions and approve them.

2) For any remaining articles that are retired but contain the content block, you can fix this problem by simply editing the knowledge block itself. You don't have to change anything. Just check it out, publish it, and approve the changes.


OUTCOME

You will be able to retire the desired knowledge block.
