Introduction
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) sets forth requirements regarding the privacy of students records, governs the release of academic records and the access to these records. FERPA is a US federal law. As a part of FERPA regulations; parents, guardians, spouses, or other loved ones cannot gain access to student academic records (which includes grades) without the student's consent. If a student wants to consent to the release of their education information, Texas Tech University provides a procedure for this.
