Overview of the Credential Manager applet in the Windows Control Panel

Introduction

No one at Texas Tech University or from anywhere else should ask for your password.

Explanation

Introduction

Credential Manager, part of Microsoft Windows, allows you to store credentials, such as usernames and passwords that you use to sign in to websites or other computers on a network. By storing your credentials, Windows can automatically sign you in to websites or other computers. Credentials are saved in special folders on your computer called vaults. The Windows operating system and programs such as web browsers can securely give the credentials in the vaults to other computers and websites.

You can also use Credential Manager to edit your saved passwords for file shares, email accounts, and other services that may have saved your passwords within Credential Manager; or, you may remove the saved credentials completely.
