Stop words in ServiceNow and askIT are words that are excluded as search terms. For example, if you are searching for articles and type "install Outlook on a Mac", the words "on" and "a" would be excluded because they are stop words. ServiceNow will only show results containing the words "install", "Outlook", and "Mac"; and it will ignore "on" and "a".

Stop words are common usage language words like pronouns, articles, and prepositions. Stop words are ignored by the search, as they are too common to add value to the search results.
