Overview of Ray Baum's Act

Introduction

The Ray Baum's Act highlights the importance of pinpointing a more accurate location of those dialing 911 through an Internet connection to request emergency services.

Explanation

Compliance with the Ray Baum's Act is federally mandated to help ensure that members of the public can successfully dial 911 to request emergency services and that Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) can quickly and accurately locate every 911 caller, regardless of the type of service that is used to make the call.

The TTUnet wired network and TTUnet wireless network underwent configuration changes in order to comply with this federal mandate. Location services in Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business throughout each building are able to specify the floor that the call came from and better assist first responders with locating individuals needing assistance.
