Information technology (IT) governance at Texas Tech University System occurs at several levels. The overall strategic direction of IT is the responsibility of the System CIO who, with input from the Strategic Oversight Council and the CIO Council, evaluates the System's technology requirements and recommends strategies to satisfy constituent needs.
At the campus level, the Texas Tech University CIO, reporting to the president, sets the direction in collaboration with the provost, deans, and vice presidents of the university. An IT Strategic Advisory Committee of senior administrators provides formal guidance in this process. More tactical priorities are managed by various ongoing and ad hoc resource allocation and project management committees.
Additionally, the CIO Council also plays an important role in advancing the technology objectives of the Texas Tech University System. The CIO Council is made up of the CIOs as well as executive IT administration from all of the System institutions. Based on a shared governance model, the role of the CIO Council is primarily strategic oversight of the three entities that comprise the Texas Tech University System. The CIO Council also coordinates the development and implementation of shared services between all Texas Tech institutions.
