How to: Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS

Instructions

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Software Update.

  4. Any available updates will appear on your screen.

    If you see a message stating that your software is up to date, be sure to look at the bottom of your screen to see all available updates.

    Major updates may appear at the bottom, requiring you to tap there to see the update.

    Tap Update Now to begin the update process.

    TIP: If you get the message, "This update requires a Wi‑Fi network connection to download," you will need to connect to a Wi‑Fi network before proceeding.

  5. Type your passcode when prompted.

    NOTE: If you have set an alphanumeric passcode, you will need to type it and then tap Done in the top right-hand corner.

  6. If prompted about terms and conditions, review the information presented. If you agree to the terms, tap Agree. Then, tap Agree again.

  7. Please wait while the update is downloaded and installed. Your iPhone will have to restart to install the update.

Outcome

Your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.

You can confirm that the update was successful by repeating steps 1-3.
