How to: Restore connectivity in Windows by resetting the winsock components

In extreme cases, after many other options have been tried, a possible solution for network connection problems may be to reset your winsock components.

CAUTION: Using this utility can erase hard-coded TCP/IP settings! Look through the TCP/IP settings and write down or take screenshots of any settings that are not default settings. In other words, if the IP address, DNS information, or other information is manually configured, it may have to be reconfigured after running this command. It is very important to make note of settings that may have been manually configured!

NOTE: You need administrator privileges in order to perform the steps below.

1) Open Command Prompt as administrator.

2) Type the following command and press Enter:

netsh winsock reset

3) Please wait while the command executes.

4) Restart your computer.


OUTCOME

You have reset your winsock components. You are able to connect to your desired network successfully.
