How to: Remove sites from a security zone in Internet Options in Windows


Instructions

  1. Open the Control Panel.

  2. In the search field, type internet options. When the search results appear, click Internet Options to open the applet.

    In the Control Panel, internet options has been searched and Internet Options is highlighted to be selected

  3. Click the Security tab.

    Under Internet Properties, the security tab is highlighted to be selected

  4. Click one of the following options to choose your zone. Then, click the Sites button.

    • Local intranet
    • Trusted sites
    • Restricted sites

    Under select a zone, trusted sites has been selected and the sites button underneath is highlighted to be selected

  5. If you clicked "Local intranet" in the previous step, click Advanced. Otherwise, skip ahead to the next step.

  6. Click the website that you want to remove. Then, click the Remove button.

    Under websites, a website has been selected and remove is highlighted to be selected

  7. When finished removing websites, click the Close button.

    The desired websites have been removed and the close button is highlighted to be selected

  8. Click OK on any open windows to save your changes.

    At the bottom of the internet properties page, ok is highlighted to be selected

Outcome

When you browse to a site, it will display using the security settings for the zone in which the site is located. If the site does not match any of the criteria specified in your zones, it will display using the "Internet" zone settings.
