How to: Mark OneDrive for Business folders and files offline or online only in Windows


Introduction

From your OneDrive folder, right-click the folder or file you wish mark. Click Always keep on this device to mark it as online only, or Free up space to mark it as offline only.

Instructions

NOTE: You must firstĀ enable Files On-Demand for these options to appear.

1) From your File Explorer, click the OneDrive - Texas Tech University folder.

2) Right-click on the file or folder you wish to mark.

2a) Click Always keep on this device to make the file or folder always download to your device.

TIP: This option will keep the files and folders downloaded to your device and take up space. However, they will always be accessible, even when offline.

2b) Click Free up space to mark the file as online only.

TIP: This option prevents files and folders from taking up space on your computer. The file(s) won't download to your device until you open it. However, you can't open these files if you aren't connected to the Internet.

You have designated your folders and files to be offline or online only.
