How to: Find the hardware address for a network adapter on your iPhone


Introduction

You may look up the hardware address on your iPhone using the instructions below.

NOTE: Apple's mobile devices use private hardware addresses. Two sets of instructions are provided below—one for looking up the actual hardware address (the one stored in the network adapter's firmware/ROM) and another for looking up the private hardware address (the one that is dynamically generated by the operating system on a per-network basis).

A1) Open the Settings app.

Outcome

The hardware address is located next to the words "Wi-Fi Address".

B: Look up the private hardware address

TIP: This address is different for each Wi-Fi network you've joined and may even change for the same network. Visit Apple's support website at https://support.apple.com/en-us/102509 for more details.

B1) Open the Settings app.

B2) Tap Wi-Fi.

B3) Ensure that the switch next to "Wi-Fi" is enabled (that is, slid to the right).

B4) Next to the Wi-Fi network to which your device is connected, tap the information icon (circle with an "i" in the middle).

Outcome

The private hardware address is located next to the words "Wi-Fi Address".
