To run a diagnostic check on a hard drive in your Dell computer, during boot-up, when you see the Dell screen, hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and press D. This will run diagnostics on the hard drive.

Outcome

If it fails, it will give a failure error code. Contact an IT support person or Dell if the drive does not boot.
