How to: Connect to a Windows file share from your Mac


Instructions

1) Open Finder.

2) In your Mac's menu bar, click Go and choose Connect to Server.

3) Type the share path using the syntax smb://remote_computer_name/remote_share_name. Replace remote_computer_name with the name of the remote computer, and replace remote_share_name with the name of the share on the remote computer.

NOTE: If it doesn't work, try the format cifs://remote_computer_name/remote_share_name.

TIP: After typing the path and before clicking "Connect", you may optionally click the plus button (+) to add it to your "Favorite Servers" list. This way, you will not have to type the address in the future.

4) Click Connect.

5) If prompted, type the credentials for accessing the server. Then, click Connect.

OUTCOME

The share will be mounted and you can access it through Finder.

You may wish to disconnect from the share once you are done using it.
